Marquis Theater

On Wednesday, December 16th, we will be going to the Marquis Theater to see the play Snow White. We will be leaving Arno around 8:45am and returning about noon. Our class will be eating lunch at Arno from 12:30-1:10pm.

Science-Rocks

Students are practicing the skills of observing and making inferences as we explore a variety of rocks. Students brought in a rock and discussed/recorded its many properties: size, color, luster, and texture.  Students even tried to pick out the correct rock based on properties presented to them.

Holiday Celebration

On Friday, December 18th, the students are invited to wear pajamas to school. We will be reading the book and watching the movie, The Polar Express. Also, while we watch the movie, the students will have a cup of popcorn and a juicebox. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to send in juiceboxes, popcorns, or cups. Kiwanis Club Visit

On Thursday, December 10th, the Kiwanis Club visited Arno’s third grade classrooms and gave each third grader a dictionary. Thank you Kiwanis Club!

French Fur Traders Presentation

The Huron-Clinton Metroparks came to visit with the third grades on Friday, December 11th. The students traveled back in time to experience/discuss the many aspects of a voyageur’s life.

Field Trip

We will be going on a field trip to the Marquis Theater on Wednesday, December 16th, with our book buddies. The permission slip and $8 fee is due on Tuesday, December 8th. The theater requires us to call a week in advance with the count.

Science

Last week, our learners made observations and inferences about seashells, generated questions about seashells, created and used categories to organize seashells, and used dichotomus keys to identify shells and other sea creatures by their characteristics.

This week, the scientists in room 122 will be learning about rocks. Students are invited to bring a rock to school on Wednesday, December 9th.

Food Donations

The Arno Family is collecting non-perishable food items for St. Christine’s food pantry. If you would like to donate, please send in non-perishable food items by Tuesday, December 15th. The collection bins are located in the main hallway across from the office.

Reading & Math Homework

After your child finishes this week’s reading story, A Curve in the River, please have him/her return the green frog reading book. The students will be given a yellow reading book for future reading homework.

Also, starting this week, every Monday your child should bring home a math homework paper. The math worksheet will be a review of concepts already covered in the classroom. Students should be able to do the work independently. However, if you notice your child is struggling with a concept, please help him/her.
