Book Buddies

On Wednesdays, we go to Mrs. Haskin’s kindergarten class to help with various activities. This past Wednesday, the third graders helped their buddies by assisting them with writing their numbers 1-25 on the sidewalk with chalk. After the kindergartener wrote their numbers correctly, the pairs had some outside play time together.

Language Arts-Prefixes

In language arts, we have been reviewing prefixes (we have already learned about prefixes in a previous spelling/word study unit).  On Friday, we played a game called “I have____, Who has____?” During this game, a student would give a clue for a prefix and another child would respond with the current prefix answer and another clue. In order to make this game even more interesting, we added a timer! Our class record was completing the game in 1 minute and 58 seconds!

Science Presentations

Our third grade science curriculum involves the study of Living Things. To enhance our learning, we will have the Metro Parks of Michigan come out to do presentations. The programs Cold Blooded Creatures,” and Michigan Mammals, fit well into our curriculum and are very appropriate for third graders. Through their mobile learning center, both of these programs are available to come to our school so that we do not have to pay the transportation expense. The presenters bring materials that enhance the learning for the theme.

The cost for both presentations will be a total of $3 per child. There is no permission slip or chaperones necessary because we are not leaving the school grounds.

The Huron-Clinton Mobile Learning Center will be here on June 3rd for the “Cold Blooded Creatures presentation, and June 10th for the “Michigan Mammals” presentation. Please turn in $3 by April 29th so we can secure our reserved dates.
