Summer Reading Program

Summer is just around the corner…at least that’s what these energetic students and the hot weather are telling me.

Do you have plans to keep your child from falling victim to the “summer slide”? Well, Arno is again having a read-a-thon this year! What a great way for students to use technology in an educational way. Students will receive login information Tuesday, May 31st to access the designated website. Students will log their minutes/books as they read, and can also collect donations from friends and family. 85 % of funds raised will go to provide resources for our ever-changing curriculum. This summer read-a-thon begins June 1st. Let’s Get Reading!

Please click on the videos below to see how it works:

Here is also a parent letter that will go home with your child’s unique login information:

Our students love using the standing desk!

 The Doorbell Rang

On Wednesday, May 11th, the students reviewed their understanding of division with a story, acting, and cookies! We read the story, The Doorbell Rang by Pat Hutchins, and acted out the story. In the story, the kids had to divide up the amount of cookies each kid would eat fairly. With our very clean hands, we split up the cookies evenly to practice our division skills. Afterwards, the students were able to enjoy chocolate chip cookies.

Science Exploration

In Science, we have been learning about oil spills. In order to show how hard it is to clean up an oil spill, the students created a simulated environment to try to clean up oil. Groups were allowed to pick three items and make a procedure to try to clean up the oil spill on their “beach”.
