New Addition to Room 122

Starting on Monday, January 9th, Ms. Kristen Massey will be student teaching in our classroom.

Dear Third Grade Parents and Guardians,

My name is Kristen Massey, and I will be student teaching in your child’s classroom with Mrs. Warneck this January. After student teaching, I will be graduating from Central Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education with a double minor in Math and Integrated Science. I graduated from Allen Park High School in 2012, and I am incrediblyexcited to have the opportunity to student teach in my hometown. This spring is going to be an explosion of learning both for the students and myself! I am really looking forward to teaching and getting to know your child!

Sincerely,

Ms. Massey

Holiday Fun

The entire school enjoyed a Holiday-Sing-A-Long hosted by Mr. Creutz and Mr. Skeebo.

We read a Christmas book to our kindergarten book buddies then helped our buddies wrap a present.

Mrs. Kalis’s 4th grade class sang “The 12 months of Michigan” to us following the tune of “The 12 days of Christmas”.

The students in room 122 also enjoyed holiday games on the Chromebooks.

Guest Reader

A BIG thank you to Xaiver’s brother for coming in to read to us and talk to us about his job in the Air Force!

French Fur Trader Projects

The students in room 122 not only did a wonderful job completing their projects but they did an impressive job sharing their French Fur Traders and reading their informational paragraph.

Great work to Grant, Grace, Kylee, Kellen, Samantha, Clara, Xaiver, Gabby, Mallory, and Sammy (not pictured) for earning 100% on their report!

Xtra Math

The students in room 122 do Xtra Math on the computer everyday. At the beginning of each math session, the students are given a progress quiz to assess if they know their math facts fluently (quickly).  The students are considered to know a math fact fluently when they get the answer correct in 3 seconds or less. After the progress quiz, the students practice or “race the teacher” on select math facts.  The Xtra Math program is used to help determine your child’s “Knows Math Facts” grade on his/her report card.

  •  If your child is on Multiplication or Division on Xtra Math, he/she will earn a “1” in the area of “Knows Math Facts”.
  • If your child is on Subtraction on Xtra Math, your child will earn a “2”  in the area of “Knows Math Facts”.
  • If your child is on Addition on Xtra Math and has mastered 75-99 facts, he/she will earn a “3” in the area of “Knows Math Facts”.
  • If your child is on Addition on Xtra Math and has mastered less than 75 facts, your child will earn a “4” in the area of “Knows Math Facts”.

Here a few helpful tips to help students do better on Xtra Math:

  • Stay focused on the computer screen.
  • Don’t go to the bathroom, get a drink, get your snack, etc. during your Xtra Math session.
  • Do not talk while doing Xtra Math.
  • Never guess!
  • Try to correctly answer as quickly as you can.
  • Do your best!

December Super Cougar

Congratulation to Alex for being our December Super Cougar! Alex is Responsible, Respectful, and Safe. He goes above and beyond our PBIS expectations. Way to go, Alex! He will participate in a pizza lunch with Mr. Zielinski on January 13th with other December Super Cougars.

December PBIS Reward

The December PBIS Reward was on Friday, December 23rd. Students with 4 or fewer color changes were able to pick their seat ANYWHERE in the lunchroom! We usually only have the choice between the same 4 tables. Ask your child if they earned the December PBIS reward.

Reading Homework

Please have your child return their Green Frog Reading Book when he/she finishes this week’s weekly reading homework. On Thursday, your child will receive a yellow reading book called, “Catch a Sunflake”.

Winter Break

Over Winter Break, my family went to Orlando, Florida, to soak up the sun. After many lazy days by the pool, we did enjoy an adventure to Legoland.
