  • Friday, March 24th: Wear your Disney clothes/costume/gear and bring your favorite fairy tale book.

Book & Cook

On Thursday, March 16th, we read If You Give a Moose a Muffin and made blueberry muffins! The students enjoyed making their tasty treats and did a wonderful job working together.

Reading Board Games

On Thursdays in March, we are enjoying playing reading board games with middle school and high school students. The reading board games focus on comprehension, following directions, sequencing, antonyms, synonyms, long vowels, short vowels, prefixes, and suffixes. In addition to practicing these academics skills in a fun and engaging way, our students are practicing social skills such as taking turns, following the rules to a game, sharing, and enjoying an activity together.

Penny War

Arno School had a penny war from Monday, March 13th-Friday, March 17th. The money raised from this event will go towards purchasing books for classrooms. Even though our class was always on the bottom half of the graph, we had a fun time participating and we sure counted A LOT of money! A BIG THANK YOU to Mrs. Pettit-Pokora, Marie’s mom, for helping us count Thursday’s totals. Stay tuned for the penny war winner!

March is Reading Month-Amazing Audience…Stuffed Animals!

On Friday, March 17th, students were allowed to bring in their stuffed animals. Our stuffed animals had a very busy day!

Math Update

Congratulations to Kellen and Grant for earning OVER a 100% on their Fraction Math Test! Way to go Kellen and Grant!

Since we are now using Think Central to take our math tests, we are using the chromebooks. Think Central is the the online component that goes with our math series. In order to share results with families at home, we are printing the tests. So far, 2 out of the 3 online math tests have had 4th grade questions (the concepts were reviewed in class), since we are a third grade classroom, the fourth grade math questions are extra credit questions.

The chapter 15: customary length, weight, and capacity math test will be on Monday, March 20th. A review packet was sent home on Friday, March 17th.

Looking ahead-Chapter 16 is about Telling Time and Temperature. You can help your child by having your child practice reading an analog clock (clock with the hands). Another big part of this chapter that can be tricky for most children is finding elapsed time or how much time has passed from one activity to the next. You can help your child practice this skill by using it with real life activities. For example, if basketball practice starts at 4:15pm and ends at 5:45pm, how long is basketball practice?

Xtra Math

Sam wanted to share all of his smiley faces from his Xtra Math session today!

Reminder-The third quarter goal for Xtra Math is for students to finish addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Each classroom’s goal is to have the most pennies in their bucket and to put silver coins/bills in other classroom buckets. The funds earned from our Penny War will go towards purchasing books at Arno School.

If you would like your child to participate, please have him/her bring their coins/bills in a ziploc bag labeled Penny War and your child’s name. This will help the Arno Staff know what the money is for. Also, the ziploc bag will make it easier for your child to carry around their coins/bills while they are participating in the Penny War.
