Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences

The following note  and a copy of your child’s NWEA scores were sent home on Friday, January 26th. Since there is not enough time slots for this conference session, I do not need to meet with all parents.

Under the Michigan Law HB4822/Public Act: 306 2016, students who are deemed as being at risk in reading achievement will receive an Individualized Reading Plan. If your child scored a 188 or lower on their Winter Reading NWEA assessment, they will receive an Individualized Reading Plan (IRP). This plan will be mailed home. We will discuss your child’s reading plan at conferences.

If your child earned a 188 or lower on the Reading NWEA assessment, please click on the link to sign up for a conference. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4bacad22a4fd0-warneck2

If your child earned a 189 or higher on their Winter NWEA Reading Assessment, they will not receive an IRP in the mail and do not require a parent/teacher conference.

All students will be reassessed in the Spring.

Parent Surveys

It’s that time of year already in our school improvement planning where we need to send out surveys to our Arno stakeholders.  You will have the opportunity to take a brief survey from the State of Michigan rating some of your experiences here at Arno.  The survey will be available  Jan 29 to Feb. 9.  We will be providing the link to it via email blast on that day, as well as posting it in the blog below.  If you are unable to access via computer, we will also have a computer set up in the office if you wish to take it there.  Giving us good feedback helps us plan better to meet the needs of every Cougar stakeholder.  In addition, students and staff also take a similar survey during the school day.

All of the feedback you provide is then summarized and becomes part of our school improvement plan for the 2018-19 school year.  Thank you very much, please click on the link to start the survey:

Science

This week in science we started our unit on forces, called “Invisible Forces.” Your child learned how almost any action one can imagine consists of a push or a pull, or as scientists call them: a force.

In class your child was presented with a list of action verbs like “drag,” “lift,” “press,” and asked to decide whether they were pushes or pulls. You can help support your child’s learning by continuing this at home. Try applying it to actions that might be of personal interest, like the actions involved in a favorite sport (a throw, a hit, a slam dunk, a tackle, etc.).

Below is a link to view Friday’s science lesson. This link will expire in 10 days.
