MetroParks Presentation-Lumberjacks

Program Overview:

Michigan’s logging industry, of the mid to late 1800’s, brought many jobs and
subsequently many people to our state. In this program, the daily life of the
lumberjack will come alive as our costumed Interpreters help students use the tools
and demonstrate the logging methods used by these hardy individuals of the Green
Gold era. We will also take a look at the foods, language, and pastimes of the logging
camps, and the stories that grew up around them.

NWEA Reading Results

Wow! Our class sure has learned a lot this year! According to the NWEA Reading assessment, 88% of our classroom students reached or exceeded their winter growth goal! As a result, we had an afternoon of games and fun!

We will continue to work hard so we can reach or exceed our NWEA spring growth goals.

Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences

Mr. Zielinski sent out the winter parent/teacher conference link in Friday’s Arno Family blog. I will NOT be requesting a conference with every family. However, if you would like to meet, please schedule a conference.
Due to district policy, I will be requesting a conference if your child earned a 189 or lower on his/her Reading NWEA assessment. We will need to sign your child’s IRP (Individualized Reading Plan).

NWEA Assessments

On Monday, students will be taking our Winter NWEA MAP Reading test.  This is the district standardized test that the students take on the computer.  Please talk with your child about the importance of taking their time and trying their best.  The test is very lengthy and students often become distracted.  I will encourage all students to “beat” their Fall score to show improvement.  Final test scores will be sent home once all students have completed both the reading and math test.  Please note our Math NWEA MAP test will be next Wednesday, January 16.

Also, Mr. Zielinski has met with all third, fourth, and fifth grade classes and has encouraged the students to try their best and take their time. In fact, Mr. Zielinski has explained to the students that they can earn an extra recess with him if they meet or exceed their personal goal or have a score of 196 or higher on the Reading NWEA Assessment.
