Recess Mask Update

Please read the Recess Mask Update from Mr. Zielinski:
After reviewing the new MDHHS orders in effect from today until at least the end of May with central office- effective Monday, masks will no longer be required after exiting the building for recess.  Students and staff must put their mask on before re-entering the building.
Parents can choose to instruct their child to continue to wear a mask outside, if desired. If anything should change from the MDHHS in terms of this order, we would adhere to the new order immediately.
Masks still need to be worn at arrival and dismissal outside
The order language for exceptions to the mask rule:
Are at an outdoor gathering with fewer than 100 persons, unless otherwise required to mask as an organized sport participant under Section 6(a).

In-Person & Remote Students

Dear Third Grade Families,

On Monday, April 26th, the teachers will begin teaching remote students and in-person students at the same time.

In-Person Students

In-person students should be attending in-person unless they are unable due to being a close contact, he/she is unable to pass the daily covid screener, or he/she has tested positive for Covid 19. If an in-person student is affected by Covid, he/she is not allowed to attend in-person school. As a result, the student may attend remotely. For example, a child wakes up and has a sore throat and a runny nose. This child would not be able to pass the daily covid screener and would need to stay home. However, he/she is allowed to join remotely for the day.

Remote Students

Remote students will be expected to join multiple zooms throughout the day for instruction. Unfortunately, teachers are unable to reteach a lesson if a remote student is late to join the zoom. Remote students may rejoin the in-person students IF the positive testing rate is 7.5% or under for 7 consecutive days per Dr. Tafelski’s spreadsheet.

If you have signed your child up for Remote or your child is unable to attend In-Person Instruction due to Covid impact, the Third Grade remote schedule for this week is as follows:

Remote Schedule for 4/26-4/30

  • 8:30am Morning Check In Question
  • 8:40am Morning Work
  • 9:10am Reading Zoom
  • 10:10am Recess: Go outside if possible. Screen Break!
  • 10:35am Math Zoom
  • 11:00 Special Class
  • 11:45am Afternoon Check In Question
  • 12:00pm Math Zoom
  • 12:55-1:35Lunch
  • 1:35pm Test Practice Strategies Zoom
  • 2:10pm Clean up your “classroom” at home.
  • 2:30-3:00 Recess: Go outside if possible. Screen Break!

Thank you for your patience while we figure out this new way of teaching and learning.

M-STEP Opt Out

Please read the following message from Mr. Zielinski…

Good morning Arno families, now that there is a plan of return (more info to come soon), we turn our attention to the state test- MSTEP.  Althought the state did apply for a waiver, the U.S. Dept. Of Ed denied that, which means we have to test.  However, the 95% participation requirement was dropped, which means we can offer an opt out option to our families.  The link for the form is below and should only be filled out if you intend to have your child opted out of the MSTEP this spring (dates below).  This same form should be used for both in person and virtual students.  Please be aware that in order to provide an appropriate testing environment, any student that is opted out must remain home on the identified day of testing for their grade level.  Please read the form carefully before submitting. this form is due no later than April 20 for planning purposes.
