March is Reading Month
Week 1 Book Champion: I Need My Monster
Week 2 Book Champion: Mother Bruce
Reading
Our reading story for the week will be Two Bear Cubs.
We will have our comprehension quiz and vocabulary quiz on Thursday, March 18th.
Science
This week’s lesson on forces was about the force of friction. Specifically we considered friction in the context of solving the mystery, “How can you slide faster down a slide?”
One fun thing you can do with your child to help support this week’s learning is to watch a video of this new invention, called “liquiglide.” This is a situation where removing friction would make your life easier. The grape jelly video is impressive: https://vimeo.com/89936192
Math
We are continuing learning about fractions. This week we have been learning how to compare fractions. We compared fractions with multiple strategies: same numerators, same denominators, drawings, and finding a common denominator.
We will have a practice test on Thursday, March 18th. Our “Comparing Fractions” test will be on Monday, March 22nd.
